I went to an high school where I learned about South Africa's apartheid system and exposed to diverse cultural histories. My African American English teacher in high school would have us critically examine the themes in books including Eugene O'Neil plays and Shakespeare. However the reading of Richard Wright inspired my desire for fairness, equality, and equity for all throughout my life resulting in my current role as the inaugural TRHT Center Director @ Emory University.
