Join The Strong National Museum of Play on Monday, January 20, and Tuesday, January 21, to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his dream for a more unified country. On Monday, enjoy an inspiring performance about the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by the Bright Start Touring Theater at 1 p.m., as well as other activities over the course of the day, including the opportunity for guests to add their dreams for the future to a Wall of Hope. On Tuesday, January 21, the museum recognizes the National Day of Racial Healing with activities designed to bring communities together. Hear a group reading of La June Montgomery Tabron’s new children’s book Our Differences Make Us Stronger at 1 p.m. Throughout the day, guests will have opportunities to celebrate their differences while establishing new friendships and connections.

On Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Lawrence D. Crocker Elementary School in New Orleans, Young Audiences is offering a second community building event for Racial Healing in the form of Collective Movement for Racial Healing. Restorative and Social Emotional Learning Coordinator Eddy Villalta Guillen will guide Crocker caregivers and their family members in a Creative Movement event to inspire conversation and restoration. Doors open at 5:15pm and the event begins at 5:30pm.

CRJE and Possible Futures are hosting a storytime event with snacks and community conversation at the Possible Futures bookstore in New Haven, Connecticut to mark the National Day of Racial Healing. Megan Madison, whose book will be featured, is a longtime CRJE facilitator. Students, families, teachers, you are all welcome to join!

The Renter Mentor housing fair will connect attendees with affordable housing opportunities and the chance to learn more about related topics. Many local organizations and resources will be represented, along with family friendly activities for all ages. United Way of Central Ohio will host a family activity to encourage literacy and reflection on community and shared heritage.

In order for young children to develop a positive sense of self, respect and compassion for others, and the courage to speak up for others when they see injustice, they need caring adults who model these skills. With the idea that we are all the same and we are all different, ECC Family Coaches will provide learning activities and materials for children and families to play and learn together! We will share Amanda Gorman’s “Change Sings” storybook at reading time and all families will receive a copy as well as other learning materials to extend the learning at home! The event is hosted by Calhoun ISD’s Early Childhood Connections in partnership with The Fatherhood and Family Services Hub at The Link Community Center in Battle Creek, Michigan.
