Workshop: Radical Love, Joy, and Healing
In this dynamic workshop, we will explore the themes of radical love, joy, and healing through music, creative writing, sound memory and movement.
The workshop begins with a nostalgic journey into our childhoods, reflecting on the moments that brought us joy, love and happiness. We will discuss the people in our lives and invite you to identify at least one person you wish to encourage to care for themselves, embracing love, joy and fun.
By the end of this workshop, you can expect to feel a renewed sense of determination surrounding radical love, joy and playfulness.
Here are a few activities you can look forward to:
Decorative Journals: Each participant will receive a small journal to decorate.
Poetry Writing: We will write a short poem together.
Movement and Reflection: Movement will be integrated into our activities, along with reflection and creative writing.
We will kick off the morning with some invigorating movement. Stand up, shake out your hands, arms, legs and hips for 60 seconds.
Please note: By the end of this workshop, you may experience a range of emotions. If it feels overwhelming, feel free to step out for a moment.
Then, we’ll pair up for a brief discussion. With your partner, name three of your favorite toys, three favorite games and at least one hand-clapping or circle game you enjoyed. Also, share three of your favorite foods or candies. You’ll have two minutes to discuss this with your partner, followed by four minutes to share your findings with the group.
If you discover you have no commonalities, let’s explore why that might be.
Afterward, we’ll shake it out again and take some deep breaths. We’ll use our imaginations to remember our favorite songs from our childhood—whether it’s Marvin Gaye or the Powerpuff Girls theme song.
As we fight for the well-being of children, let’s remember to nurture ourselves as well.
Governors State University’s National Day of Racial Healing is a crucial opportunity for our university community to reflect on the past, confront present challenges and foster meaningful dialogue about racial equity and healing. This year’s virtual event on January 21st at 1:00 PM CST will feature a special guest speaker, followed by an 8-week book discussion to deepen our understanding of racial issues.
With participation from over 65 students, faculty, staff, and administrators, we have collectively navigated our shared pain and challenging experiences. This journey has allowed us to listen to and truly see one another, leading to a more compassionate and open community. As we come together for this important day, we reaffirm our commitment to healing and understanding, paving the way for a more inclusive future.

My name is Matthew, I am reaching out to ask for your help with The Arnwine Family for an attorney to help my family fight for justice, i learned about what happened to my family and I knew it was wrong, I am young 20 years old and I wanted to know more of my family history story, my cousin told me and I automatically said that someone needs to fight for justice and I have read the slave Narrative that Sterling Arnwine did with the Federal Writers Project and I was in shock about how they took my family land that was left in the will of Albartis Arnwine my 4th Great Grandfather in Jacksonville Texas, it's sad that nothing has been done about it and no one is fighting for our family. I ordered a t shirt that our family has to wear to let others know and I shared our story on Instagram to get help with our petition and GoFundMe page, we do want the world to know our historical story. My family has and been doing so much to get justice and we need a lawyer quickly to get justice, because we know it will be hard soon to fight with laws changing all the time. I am standing behind my family and we hope you do too. My Family wants me to be the "Youth Leader" for our family because I have learned a lot and it's not a lot of the young people that would listen to the older family members and I can help them understand better because I am the youth of the family, so I can educate them on how important family history is and what happened to our family. I want the world to know about our untold Historical African American story. Please help The Arnwine Family get justice and reparations. We Have NAACP working with us, I'm Proud To be able to share with our young generation my important family story and African American History. Thank You
