“With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation to a beautiful symphony of brotherhood.” So said Dr. King in a speech given in 1963 in Kalamazoo’s Miller Auditorium.

Through the pieces on this program, the Kalamazoo Symphony and community partners reflect together to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Kandace Lavender of Read and Write Kalamazoo will give a spoken word performance reflecting on composer Margaret Bonds' "The Montgomery Variations." Featuring a side-by-side performance with the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra and the combined choruses of Kalamazoo Central and Loy Norrix High Schools, this event embodies music as a unifying force in our community.

Healing Together: A community-led Workshop Series for Racial Understanding and Empathy is a special event designed to foster a deeper understanding of racial experiences and provide a safe space for healing and personal care.

Participants will have the opportunity to listen to their peers' stories and share their own in a nurturing environment guided by professional therapists focused on inner peace and resilience. This event is not just a gathering; it's an opportunity for us to grow, learn, and heal together. We firmly believe in the strength of our community and the power of shared experiences to bring about genuine healing.

Amplified justice is hosting a real and courageous conversation about the barriers in our community that keep us from having true racial and class equality.

What is at the root of the problem in 2024?

What are the real solutions?

What can we do to create those solutions to racial in class inequality in New Orleans?
And what do need to ask of our public officials and leaders?

What do we do about anti-blackness amongst Black people?

How do we hold them and each other accountable?

What should be holding our community accountable to do realistically?

MLK DAY COMMUNITY SING-IN: Celebrating Songs Of The Civil Rights Movement is a FREE service project designed to bring singers together in celebration of the music that fueled Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement.

We will raise our voices as a unified congregation, singing soul-stirring classic and rare songs of the Movement that encourage engagement, build community and create constructive action.

MLK DAY COMMUNITY SING-IN: Celebrating Songs Of The Civil Rights Movement will uplift and further Dr. King's messages of social justice and equity via SINGING ("Sing-In") on the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service.

By participating in service projects, we can bridge divides, heal wounds and create lasting change that can benefit our communities for years to come.

We are welcoming ALL SINGERS – individuals and choirs + shy singers and SUPA⭐s – to UNITE, SERVE and CELEBRATE the incredible legacy of Dr. King.

Join us in Eastern North Carolina for the second year celebrating the National Day of Racial Healing! This year's event will include a resource fair from 4pm-5pm to share how departments, centers, organizations, etc. are promoting racial healing, followed by dinner with an engaging speaker, Kristal Brent Zook, from 5pm-6pm. The event is FREE, but registration is required. We hope to see you there!

We are a 501c3 nonprofit. With volunteer mediators and restorative practice facilitators we help people move through conflict in a healing way. With the support of 2 restorative practice facilitators we are inviting the community to join us in a Healing Circle.

This intimate event will comprise facilitated discussion exploring the topic of racial healing broadly, but also in the contexts of holistic wellness, economic enfranchisement, and the power of narrative.
